Director Michael Hull met Liz Fink as a friend and began helping her out around her apartment in Brooklyn when she was having some health problems. They talked about a lot of things, but Liz always make her way back around to Attica. One day she opened a door he’d never noticed and showed him the material that would come to define the next eight years. Hundreds of photographs and more than ten hours of VHS tapes were in that closet. Most of it is claimed to be ‘lost or missing’ by the State of New York, and it is the foundation of Betrayal at Attica.
